Life Happens…What’s your Plan?

John Lennon said, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans. ”

Mike Tyson said, “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

What’s the deal? Can’t things just happen according to our plans? (Of course not, silly..that would be boring)

It is during times like these that we wish for an assistant, lady/gentleman in waiting, or even a cardboard cutout of ourselves :-).

You may have heard of  the  Six P’s: Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. If planning isn’t your strong suit, why not reach out for help.  Event planners are planners that happen to plan events, but they have the necessary skills/tools/resources to plan just about anything.

Event planners have a backup up plan for the backup plan, we imagine the worst case scenario and plan for that. Definitely not a “glass full” outlook, but it works!

Things your Event Planner Won’t Say About their Job…

Sure, wall have them, the things about our job that we could do without. The things that sometimes make us want to call in sick, or say “I’m just not doing it today.”

Event planners have a list too. Even though this is a profession that we get into because we enjoy it, there are still aspects about it that we would change if given the opportunity.

So, would you like to know what they are? Here goes….

-Long and irregular work hours

-Constant multitasking

-TV makes it look a LOT easier than it really is

-Physical labor is always included

-Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines

Hopefully you are not traumatized by this information, and you are able to sleep tonight in light of this revelation. I think it’s important to understand that event planners do what they do in spite of the downsides, which shows hutzpah, considering they could do be doing something else for a living.

“Whatever you’re thinking about is literally like planning a future event. When you’re worrying, you are planning. When you are appreciating, you are planning…What are you planning?” ~ Abraham Hicks

This is so true. The act of worrying, thinking, ruminating about what to do prevents you from actually doing. Never fear, your event planner is here! Once you have handed over the reins to your planner, you can relax and get back to breathing..and look forward to enjoying your event.

So now you have one more thing to do: find a planner!!

Ladies Night Out

When you are in the midst of planning a Ladies Night Out/Girlfriends Getaway/Rebelion/Escape from the Family, there are a few things you absolutely cannot forget. I know you are excited to get together with the ladies that know you best so you can relax, laugh, and have those conversations that can only occur after a few bottles of wine at 3 am. I’m here to make sure that over the course of the night you do not say, “Crap! I forgot to bring (insert item left on your kitchen counter).]

If you remember to carry the following five items, you have just increased your enjoyment level exponentially:

1. Camera – so you can capture the great laughs, and your BFF going down the Soul Train line

2. Mints/gum – no explanation needed

3.  Itinerary – all dressed up with nowhere to go SUCKS

4. Cute hair clip/scrunchie – for a quick updo when you longer have curls

5. Phone number for taxi – Leave no woman behind

Even if you have a few days to plan, you and your girls can still have a great time, provided the essentials are in tow. Image

The Beauty of Vendor Fair Madness

Yes, it’s that time of year..time for crafted critters, quilted quirkiness, sweet treats, and other goodies at vendor fairs! I decided to participate in the most recent fair, and I must say that it in the weeks and days leading up to the BIG day, it was very exciting and nerve-wracking. An an event planner, I do not have a “product” , so I had to come up with an eye-catching way to illustrate my services. I experimented with several concepts, and came up with two very different tablescapes. I did test runs of both designs, and tweaked here and there until I was satisfied..see below for an “in progress” pic of one of my choices.
